Nyummy Libido Lifters!
By Rev. Gillian V. Harris, M.S.P.

Let's talk about sex baby,
lets talk about you and me...

Remember that song? Salt N Pepper,1991!
Am I dating myself!?  Lol!

This article has me playing that song in the back of my mind as I type!!!
Let's talk about healthy sexual desire!  Yeah that! This kind of desire is associated with good physical and emotional health. It is not surprising then that food can play a part in helping you get back your .....pace.

If you're more interested in sleep in the bedroom than anything else it may be time to get closer - more intimate...with your DIET. What are you eating?!?Well... did a little research.  It is generally perceived that food that looks like a part of the body can stimulate your libido. – Um. Ok. I admit that was a very graphic sentence in a very non graphic way!  A couple of body part looking pieces of fruit are illustrated above! 🙂

If you ever wonder what foods can increase your libido - just think HEALTHY! All healthy foods are good for sex. However, some foods are particularly useful like walnuts, strawberry, avocados, watermelons, asparagus, red peppers (!), figs and almonds among others.

It should be noted that alcohol is bad for a healthy sexual life? What?! Yes!
It may increase DESIRE...but.. what good is desire if PERFORMANCE has been compromised by the alcohol?! Talk about a Buzz Kill!
You're better off eating some CHOCOLATE!!! Of course, sugar is really bad for us for many reasons including fat. But .. once in a while... in moderation and with conscious intention that you will burn those calories off with the results of the higher libido!!  Same with RICE! Rice is a carbohydrate.  Carbs are ...bad (for those working to keep weight off or lose weight). But the consumption of carbs leads to the release of endorphins which feel...really good. Endorphins, by the way, increase libido!

More Edible Aphrodisia ...…

The following 9 foods are filled with nutrients that can shift your sex drive into a higher gear and improve your overall health as well!

1. Meat
Meat is one of those foods which have been shown to improve sexual life. It is therefore important to include various meats in your diet. Carnitine and L-arginine are amino acids that improve blood flow. Continuous blood flow is indispensable for sexual response in men and women.

Serve the protein of animal origin (in moderate amounts, to avoid increased risk of heart disease) so that all the systems in the bedroom can be kept running properly.

(Vegetarian? Nuts work too! Walnuts mentioned above, Almonds mentioned below…)

2. Oysters
EVERYBODY knows oysters are an aphrodisiac. I don’t even LIKE oysters but the fact that they lift libido has had me try them! Lol! According to research conducted at a 2005 conference of the American Chemical Society, oysters, clams and scallops are loaded with compounds that increase testosterone and estrogen levels.

Increasing hormone production leads to increased sexual desire in many cases. Oysters are well loaded with zinc, and zinc is important in stimulating blood flow to the sex organs in both males and females. Are you not craving any mollusk? What’s Mollusk?  Well, snails, slugs, mussels and Octopi, of course! Great aphrodisiac properties in these, too but you don’t have to go there! Lol!   Instead, enjoy lobster or crab. The two types of shellfish contain a significant amount of zinc.

3. Maca (photo above)
Maca has a lot of health benefit and it has been found to be used in South America to increase fertility, and it was branded by the name "Peruvian Viagra". It grows mainly in the mountains of central Peru and is associated with cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, kale, and cabbage.

The aphrodisiac properties of Maca have been backed by science. A study conducted on animal shows that there is an increase in libido and erectile function in mice and rat that are fed with maca. It has also been shown to have libido-boosting effect in humans as well.

4. Garlic
Garlic is an amazing plant. A natural anticoagulant that is often used to prevent high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease! The anticoagulant properties of garlic help to ensure that enough blood flows throughout the system.  That's good for the libido!  Garlic has so many benefits, its worth the crazy breath it gives you!

5. Avocados
Avocados contain a significant amount of folic acid and vitamin B6 which have been found to play a vital role in maintaining a healthy sexual drive. These two nutrients found in avocados play a different role: folic acid supplies the body with energy, vitamin B6, on the other hand, stabilizes the hormones.

6. Watermelon
One of my most FAVORITE fruits! And I know I'm not alone as this popular melon sells out at grocery stores across the country. Watermelon contains citrulline which releases essential amino acids and arginine into the body. As a result watermelon plays a greater role as it helps to enhance erection and improves libido. – Wow! I didn’t know that before researching this!

8. Almonds
Almonds are well loaded with arginine which helps to improves circulation and relaxes the blood vessels. The amino acids which are present in almonds assist in maintaining an erection. – I am feeling a watermelon/almond desert recipe coming on! Oh! With eggs

9. Eggs
Eating egg plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy sexual drive as it helps achieve a healthy erection. The amino acid found in an egg is L-arginine and it has been found that it improves erectile dysfunction.
